By the mid-80s visual range was no longer cat and mouse watching...it had become deadly so we ran intercepts but not photo-ops (like Soviet Bear bombers). Yes...I was the strike escort for the strike group on the Sahand and then I flew "top cover" when (I did not know at the time-fog of war) an airwing buddy of mine in a single A-6 LGBd (laser guided bombed) with his lone/last Mk-82 (500 lb.) down the stack of the Sabalan.
